Solar House
Cumberland, Maine

3,000 sf

The Morgan House was built to look and function like a conventional house, but generates 100% of its energy needs. Requiring no lifestyle adjustment, the house includes standard appliances, consumes virtually no oil or natural gas, and stores electricity for use during power outages. The house features:

  • 100% solar tube active system for space heating and domestic hot water heating.

  • Grid-tied photovoltaic panel arrays provide electricity for the home and charge a back-up battery system.

  • Hi-efficiency appliances and low-flow water-saving fixtures.

  • Local lumber and stone.

  • Water-based spray foam insulation provides superior insulation without harmful off-gassing.
