Oak Point Associates recently designed a program that included classrooms, a science laboratory, art and music rooms, a library, staff offices, an administration area, a gymnasium with adjoining locker rooms, a cafeteria with a commercial kitchen, an auditorium space, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, and athletic facilities.

The architect took advantage of the site's southern exposure by employing the use of clerestory windows that allow natural light into the interior corridors. Great care was also taken during the design phase to retain a number of large trees on the site, to relocate other trees of significance, and to minimize the impact of the facility on the site.

The building is a 48,000 sf masonry structure. As one of the State of Maine's first "High Performance Schools", much emphasis was placed on the energy-efficient design of the building's shell. Structural, insulated panels accelerated the pace of construction and provide a highly efficient building envelope. Heat recovery units, occupancy sensors, and an in-floor radiant heat system were designed for use throughout the facility.
