Oak Point collaborated with the owner's team to design an addition that would provide office and classroom space, as well as a lobby that would reorganize the existing facility. Together, they created what was ultimately dubbed "The Solar Scheme." This design solution allows the addition to swing away from the existing building facing its long axis to the south, capturing the easy to control southern light and opening up an entry courtyard to the north-east, which directs occupants into the new lobby space.
The facility includes an innovative natural ventilation system controlled by the "Nice Day Switch," which allows occupants to shut down the HVAC system and automatically open clerestory windows to initiate natural air flow.
