Overview:

The project began when the homeowners were constructing a major addition onto their house.  Because the natural grade fell away from the house, but doors opened off the new upper level rooms, a series of terraced garden rooms was created.  Each garden had a different theme, including a white garden, shade garden, cool garden, warm garden, rhododendron garden, and medicinal garden.

A second phase added a stone terrace and additional gardens at the opposite end of the house, which included rose gardens, shade gardens and a fountain element.

The final phase was constructed around a “summer house” that the homeowners built within a clearing in the woods, a short distance from the main house.  Development of this phase included a play lawn, an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, a basketball court, numerous perennial gardens and indigenous plantings, and a meadow.
