Overview: 

Goals for the three-phase, fast-track Waterville High School renovation project included upgrading architectural finishes, reducing energy consumption, simplifying site circulation and improving indoor environmental quality, resulting in a vastly improved educational facility for students, teachers, and staff.

Waterville was unable to provide students with temporary classroom space; therefore, construction of each of the three phases of this project was scheduled during the summer school break in order to avoid disrupting classes. Completed Phase I included upgrading science labs and a new curtain wall in the science wing. Phase II consisted of a new library, math classroom upgrades, a new library wing curtain wall, basement level window replacement, and exterior concrete surface renewal. Completed Phase III construction consisted of a new lobby, three floors of updated classrooms, plumbing upgrades, new curtain wall, a biomass boiler heating system, a new building security system, a new main building entrance and reconfigured vehicular circulation pattern. The scope of Phase III and the tight scheduling required close coordination between Oak Point Associates and the contractor.

Renovations improved indoor air quality, added daylight, removed asbestos, supplied more comfortable levels of heating and cooling, improved acoustic levels, increased pedestrian and vehicle safety, created a more welcoming main entrance, and offered students and teachers a modernized educational environment. These improvements help to ensure a healthy and safe school for students, teachers, and staff.
